The Screen Dilemma: Mobile Interpretation to Focus, not Distract

Through two case studies of projects that use mobile technology for historic interpretation, this paper explores strategies for encouraging users to engage with a physical site rather than with their screens. How can mobile experiences for museums, historic sites, botanical gardens, and zoos be more focused on the tangible, present content than on the device itself? One answer is to create an immersive mobile experience that engages the visitor more fully with the experience around them, instead of drawing them away from it.
